Three Soldiers from the 32nd Medical Brigade were inducted into the Sergeant Major of the Army Leon L. Autreve Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, or SMAVA SAMC, at a ceremony at the Evans Theater at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 1.

Inducted were Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Cummings from the 264th Medical Battalion, Sgt. 1st Class Debbie Laster from the 232nd Medical Battalion and Staff Sgt. Magalie Atilus from the 232nd Medical Battalion. All three Soldiers are members of the 32nd Medical Brigade.

Command Sgt. Maj. Gerald C. Ecker, U.S. Army Medical Command, was the guest speaker and helped in cutting a cake honoring the 130th anniversary of the Army Medical Enlisted Corps.

Induction into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club is an arduous process, consisting of a recommendation by the Soldier's non-commissioned officer chain-of-command to participate in the rigorous board examination process. Only the absolute best Soldiers are recommended and inducted.

The club recognizes noncommissioned officers who set the highest standards of leadership, excellence and exemplify the characteristics of Sgt. Audie Murphy, an American hero.
