JBSA honors the beginning of military aviation

Lt. Gen. Perry Wiggins, commanding general, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and senior commander for Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, and United States Air Force retired Col. Stump Sowada (right), Order of Daedalians, Stinsons Flight captain, place the wreath during an annual ceremony held at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston parade grounds March 2. The event was held in recognition of the 105th anniversary of Maj. Gen. Benjamin D. Foulois’ first flight which took place at then Fort Sam Houston. The celebration honored signal corps pilot, Foulois, who made his first take-off, solo flight, landing and first crash after four flights with the “Wright ‘B’ Flyer” aircraft over the Fort Sam Houston parade ground which has since been named the MacArthur Parade Field. Paul Olmos III, 802nd Security Forces Squadron military working dog handler, leads members from the 902nd and 802nd SFS with members of local police departments during a bus assault and hostage rescue exercise Feb. 19, 2015 at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Camp Talon. The local agencies involved in the exercise were from the cities of Live, Oak Universal City and Converse and the Judson Independent School District Police Departments. Holocaust survivors Rose Williams, Anna Rado, Suzanne Jalnos and George Fodor share their personal experiences of perseverance and survival with members of the Air Education Training Command’s Judge Advocate Office during a professional development event Feb. 11 at the Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph’s Fleenor Auditorium.
