Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Nield, Headquarters Support Company, U.S. Army North, gives an overview of the caisson platoon and its mission of honoring fallen service members to Gold Star Fathers and family members June 17. The group visited Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston as part of the 80th Annual American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., National Convention held in San Antonio. The American Gold Star Mothers organization formed in 1928 of mothers who lost a son or daughter in service to the nation. The organization and the members continue to honor their sons and daughters through service to veterans and patriotic events.

Thirty-two Reserve Officer Training Course cadets from various U.S. colleges attended the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency program in Santiago Chile from May 14 to June 2. The military-to-military exchange paired the U.S. cadets with Chilean cadets where they shared learning and cultural exchanges.

The CDP welcomes children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. The CDP provides activities and programs which support children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The program is accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The CDP is a USDA certified center, providing breakfast, lunch and two snacks each day.

Army Capt. Kyle Salik is the first patient to receive oxygen therapy at the new Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston June 20. Hyperbaric oxygen can be used to treat 14 different indicators including wound healing.
