433rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron participates in National Disaster Medical System exercises

Senior Airman Amanda Geffert, 433rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron flight medic, and Army Spc. Maryssa Alfonso, BAMC Alpha Company load a simulated litter patient into a C-130H Hercules aircraft to for air transport at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland March 20. Several military and civilian organizations participated in a National Disaster Medical System exercise.

Former MTI from 149th Fighter Wing preps Air National Guard recruits

Senior Master Sgt. Aaron Hartzler, aircrew flight equipment superintendent with the 149th Fighter Wing, prepares future Air National Guard student flight members for their upcoming basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland March 23. Hartzler previously worked as a military training instructor and was asked to conduct on-campus training with 149th Fighter Wing recruits during regularly scheduled drills to give them a better understanding of their commitment for enlisting in the U.S. military.

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan (center), U.S. Army North commander and senior Army commander for Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, as well as other JBSA-Fort Sam Houston and Lincoln Military Housing leaders, addressed additional housing concerns at the second Army Family Housing Town Hall. This town hall provided an update for housing residents and new steps residents can utilize to help with issues in the future.

Guard members to see changes in GI Bill transfer benefits

National Guard members will soon see changes to the program that allows them to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to their spouse or children that will limit the time frame they can initiate that transfer. Set to go in effect July 12, Guard members will need to have served six years before they can transfer benefits and they must transfer the benefits by the time they hit 16 years of service. Additionally, Guard members extend their enlistment contract by at least four years to transfer benefits.
