Each year, the Air Force Aid Society awards funding for the Spouse Employment Training Program. This program offers free training and certification opportunities for active duty Air Force and Space Force spouses to help with entry-level employment skills and enhance the military spouses' employment opportunities. Training and certifications cover a wide range of fields, from certified nursing assistants and medical coding to computer information technology, fitness trainer certifications and more.
At the start of each fiscal year, the JBSA M&FRCs submits proposals and competes with other installations to receive awards for scholarship opportunities that provide grants for short-term training and certification through local community colleges and institutions. If a JBSA M&FRC location is selected to receive an award(s), grant opportunities may be available quarterly or annually.
When AFAS Spouse Employment Grant opportunities are available, active duty Air Force or Space Force spouses may apply to openings offered at their assigned duty station in order to be considered for selection. Trainings and certifications are usually short term (3-6 weeks) and spouses must be able to commit to the entire duration of the training. Contact your assigned location for more information about this training opportunity.
