2025 Camp Bullis Medical Center of Excellence Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facility & Armored Medic Personnel Vehicle Trails
The Department of the Air Force (DAF) is inviting public input on any practicable alternatives for a proposed activity within the 100-year floodplain at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA)-Camp Bullis, Texas. The Proposed Action involves the improvement of approximately 3 miles of existing and new trail to withstand Armored Medic Personnel Vehicle (AMPV) traffic. This AMPV trail will connect training areas supporting the Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE) mission, to include the Basic Officer Leader Course training area, the Soldier Medic Training Site, the Vehicle Wash Facility, and the Standard Tactical Equipment Facility within Camp Bullis. Trail improvements will include strengthening of crossings at paved roads and creek crossings, and vegetation management of trees and shrubs within and immediately adjacent to the trail path. The trail improvements will support the MEDCoE training mission and be executed via contract. This project will enhance situational and proficiency training capabilities for driving heavy armored vehicles. The new AMPV trail is partially located within the 100-year floodplain associated with the Salado and Lewis Creeks. Outside of reinforcement work at crossings, no excavation activities are anticipated and no modifications to existing contours are projected.
The DAF is performing environmental analysis in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act to analyze the potential environmental impacts of the Proposed Action. This early public notice is required by Executive Order 11988 and has been prepared and made available to the public by the USAF in accordance with 32 CFR 989 and Air Force Manual 32-7003 for actions proposed within the 100-year floodplain.
