Dagger Forge III trains troops to become elite Signals Intelligence Lethal Soldiers

Dagger Forge III trained 40 active duty members, who underwent physical, technical and tactical training to become Signals Intelligence Lethal Soldiers, the Army’s force of intelligence gathering troops. This signals intelligence field training event was conducted April 5-9 at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis by the 717th Military Intelligence Battalion, part of the 470th Military Intelligence Brigade at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.

Spc. Iosif Covalenco attended the Pax South gaming festival in San Antonio in March. Covalenco, who was assigned to the 470th Military Intelligence Brigade at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston for a year, is joining the U.S. Army Esports Team, which is part of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command headquartered at Fort Knox, Kentucky. As a member of the esports team, Covalenco will represent the Army at local, regional and national esports competitions.

Sgt. Pedro Ortiz Feliciano, 470th Military Intelligence Brigade analyst at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, served as an assistant coach for the All Army Men’s Volleyball Team that competed in the Armed Forces Volleyball Championship tournament in May at Hurlburt Field, Florida. His expertise and knowledge of volleyball and physical training helped the team to a second place showing at the tournament.

Four University of Texas at San Antonio students who interned this summer with the Army's 470th Military Intelligence Brigade at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston had the opportunity to try the Engagement Skills Trainer, or EST, a simulator that provides training for Soldiers in marksmanship and firearms training skills.

The U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff, or G2, Lt. Gen. Robert Ashley (second from left), visited the Intelligence and Security Command Detention Training Facility, or IDTF, at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis recently. The IDTF provides a multidiscipline Foundry training platform specializing in realistic training environments enabling commanders to train and certify individual on collective intelligence tasks. The IDTF provides an intelligence range, methods for integrating maneuvers, a scenario environment and facilities supporting IT architecture and other critical training enablers, such as role players and a signals intelligence environment, to create realistic live collection opportunities in accordance with training and evaluation guidelines.
