59th Airman named Outstanding Airman of the Year
August 28, 2017
Senior Airman Nicole Moore, 59th Medical Wing medical technician, was recognized as one of the Air Force 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2017, July 7th, 2017.  An Air Force selection board at the Air Force Personnel Center considered 36 nominees who represented major commands, direct reporting units, field operating agencies and Headquarters Air Force. Memorial held for fallen battlefield Airman

Members of the 350th Battlefield Airmen Training Squadron and from throughout Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland participated in a 1-mile log march during a memorial remembrance ceremony honoring Lt. Col. William “Bill” Schroeder April 7, 2017, at JBSA-Lackland, Texas, Medina Annex. Schroeder’s unit honored his legacy renaming a drop zone as Schroeder DZ and participated in a "Monster Mash" fitness competition, remembrance ceremony and log march. April 8, 2016, Schroeder recognized a perilous situation developing and reacted swiftly by putting himself between an armed individual and his first sergeant. In the process, he saved lives of other squadron members while being fatally wounded. Schroeder was posthumously awarded the Airman’s Medal, given to those that distinguish themselves by a heroic act – usually at the volunteer risk of their lives but not involving combat. AETC’s 2016 Altus Trophy goes to San Antonio community

Enlisted RPA pilot board selects 30 Airmen for pilot training

502nd Logistics Readiness Squadron wins four AETC awards

Medical supplies from the Air Force Medical Operations Agency are loaded onto a C-17 Globemaster III Sept. 26, 2014, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Kelly Field Annex in support of United States Africa Command and United Nations operations to help treat patients and halt the spread of the Ebola virus. The supplies will support field hospitals and aid workers battling the virus in Monrovia, Liberia, and efforts to fortify global health security infrastructure in the region and beyond.

502nd Air Base Wing: Supporting the largest installation in the first command

Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland dates back to July 4, 1942, when the War Department separated part of Kelly Field west of Leon Creek and made it an independent installation, naming it the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center. The Army re-designated it as the Army Air Forces Military Training Center Feb. 1, 1946, and gave it the basic military training mission for the Army Air Force.
