Eligible veterans can seek refund for taxes on disability severance payment

Veterans who are eligible for a refund for taxes paid on their disability severance payment can submit a 1040X Amended U.S. Individual Tax Return for their reimbursement. Army Lt. Col. David Dulaney, the executive director for the Armed Forces Tax Council, said the Defense Department has identified more than 130,000 veterans who may be eligible for the refund.

Tax center helps service members realize $4.17 million in refunds

The Tax Center processed more than 2,111 Federal and more than 200 State returns. The tax center was able to reach more than 3,400 clients and returned more than 4.17 Million dollars in the form of refunds to the community. The Tax Center also saved the JBSA-FSH Community more than $434,000 in filing and preparation fees.

JBSA tax centers open Jan. 31 to assist military, family members, retirees

This year, four tax assistance centers will be available at Joint Base San Antonio locations to provide free tax preparation and e-filing of federal and state income tax returns for eligible military tax¬payers and family members. Services will be available for military retirees on a limited basis.
