DOD innovation units join forces to engage small business

Senior Airman Alzara Kimalova, Air Force Sustainment Center contract specialist, is walked through power-off procedures for C-130H aircraft through virtual reality technology at the Inaugural Pitch Day hosted by the Robins Spark Cell and AFSC Contracting located at Robins Air Force Base, Sept. 20, 2019, at the Advanced Technology and Training Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. The event is an initial prototype effort to assess the capabilities of current commercially available virtual reality training systems when used in a military environment, particularly within the 461st and 116th Air Control Wings at Robins.

Ethan Jacobs, unmanned aerial system engineer, launches a UAS during a field test Sept. 4 at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis. The UAS was equipped with Light Detection and Ranging, multi-spectral sensors and machine-learning algorithms to map, survey and inventory habitat for the golden-cheeked warbler. The field test will help the Air Force determine if UAS technology can characterize habitat better, faster and cheaper than current methods.

Technology, AFWERX, helping SF Academy graduates become more lethal, ready

Airman 1st Class Valric Suyom, a recent graduate of the Security Forces apprentice course, participates in a use of force training scenario in the Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives, or MILO, simulator as Staff Sgt. James McKinney, 343rd Training Squadron instructor, guides the training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland May 29. The MILO system puts student in various interactive use of force training scenarios, including the potential application of deadly force, through the use of enhanced video screens.
