Airmen earn Diamond Sharp award

During October, the following individuals were recognized by a Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland first sergeant with a Diamond Sharp Award. The Diamond Sharp Award is sponsored by the Joint Base San Antonio First Sergeants Council and recognizes outstanding Airmen who continually exceed the standard to meet the Air Force mission. Airmen are recognized monthly by the council with an award and remarks on their stellar perfomance from their first sergeant. 

Airman 1st Class Bianca Maldonado
 Name/rank:  Airman 1st Class Bianca Maldonado   
 Unit: 559th Trainee Health Squadron  
 Duty title: Ophthalmic Technician    
 Time in service: 1 year, 3 months   

 Hometown: Haverstraw, NY  

 "Airman 1st Class Bianca Maldonado has performed over 1,000 eye examinations to include specialty testing  for basic trainees while serving the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland active duty population. Her efforts led to a  100 percent patient satisfaction survey report. She initiated a lean daily management process to reduce  shipping costs of patient’s glasses by over 50 percent.  Additionally, Maldonado performed duties of the Reid  Optometry Clinic noncommissioned officer in charge for six weeks during a manning deficit, where she  successfully executed the Optometry Flight mission requirements with zero reported discrepancies."

"Airman 1st Class Michael Pfeiffer is a vital team member of the 3d Combat Camera Squadron.  Though new to the Air Force and the career field, he has repeatedly distinguished himself through his work ethic, job knowledge and Airmanship.  He displayed the highest level of professionalism acting as the primary camera operator for the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force during the recent Air Force Sergeants Association conference. He edited and completed the video for release less than 60 minutes after the event’s end. Pfeiffer regularly goes above and beyond as both a combat camera professional and an Airman."

"Airman Harvey Olivio, is assigned to the 668th Alteration and Installation Squadron Communications flight, where he was a vital team member of an 8-man team performing a $1 million, 11,000 square foot sensitive compartmented information facility renovation.  Olivio’s efforts were pivotal to the installation of 66,000 feet of IT infrastructure, 45 equipment racks, and 200 feet of IT distribution pathways, enabling a new cyber training mission and saving the Air Force $411,000. He recently completed an industry certification course to test and certify fiber optic cabling, which he used to test 476 network circuits, supporting CYBER defense operations."

Airman 1st Class Deion Wilkinson is a newly assigned Airman to the 93rd Intelligence Squadron and has demonstrated absolute professionalism and unwavering positivity.  Always eager to learn, he quickly enrolled in his mission’s job qualification standard training, accomplishing all requirements in record time and passing the final evaluation exam with an impressive 92 percent.  He also successfully completed a two-week National Cryptologic School reporting course, utilizing the knowledge attained to author two mission critical product reports.  Realizing the impact of unit cohesiveness, Wilkinson jumped at the chance to join the squadron’s flag football team, and is now one of its pivotal members, both as a player and a recruiter. Within just a couple of months, Wilkinson has already made a positive impact and continues to shine."

“Staff Sgt. Johnathan Freeman is the noncommissioned officer in charge of the service desk assigned to the 690th Intelligence Support Squadron. As a client systems administrator, he is responsible for providing 24/7 help desk support on three networks for 6,000 users. He was hand-selected to fill the role of the lead Local Registry Authority for Joint Base San Antonio, managing 14 technicians, and has tracked and issued over 450 tokens worth $86,000. Additionally, his hard work and technical expertise was vital in identifying 23 training deficiencies and has authored 38 new master training tasks, in-turn shaving customer wait times by 15 minutes. Freeman continues to distinguish himself as a leader amongst his peers and is a true asset to the 690th ISS he is undoubtedly worthy of this Diamond Sharp Award."

Staff Sgt. Smith  Name/rank: Staff Sgt. Andrew Smith

 “Staff Sgt. Andrew Smith is the epitome of what we expect from our Airmen and has established a reputation as the "go-to-guy" for getting the job done. As an MTL, his ability to motivate others to excel, his mentorship skills and his lead front the front mentality are exceptional. Airmen of the 343rd Training Squadron, fellow MTLs and even squadron command staff respond to his contagious energy and stellar leadership. Smith epitomizes those qualities most highly sought after in the Air Force and will no doubt leave a legacy for others to follow. As a MTL, Smith led five security forces technical training teams totaling 500+ Airmen. He is an avid supporter of quality of life initiatives and led a three-on-three basketball tournament and Madden Tournament, in turn raising the morale of over 900 Airman. Sergeant Smith was “handpicked” to be a 37 TRW Mission Briefer and has expertly delivered two briefs to high level distinguished visitors. Sergeant Smith’s leadership skills drove six of his to earn six, consecutive Airman of the Month awards for the 37 TRG. According to his instructor counterparts, Smith is continuously making a positive impact in the lives of 1500 Airman on a daily basis.
