2015 JBSA Air Show, Open House showcases AF missions to local community

Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Public Affairs

More than 250,000 people attended the 2015 Joint Base San Antonio Air Show and Open House Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 to witness military and civilian aerial acrobatics, learn about various static aircraft displays and interact with JBSA military members at JBSA-Randolph.

Highlights of the event included performances from the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds air demonstration team, the U.S. Army Golden Knights and Air Force Wings of Blue parachute teams. The ability to view static displays, showcasing the evolution of joint air power and advancements in technology that have occurred throughout Air Force history, was also a huge draw for the two-day event.

“This air show and open house was an opportunity for everyone in the San Antonio community to witness the jobs we do every day,” Brig. Gen. Bob LaBrutta, 502nd Air Base Wing and JBSA commander, said. “Through this event we were able to demonstrate what the Air Force does for our nation and to give back to the community that supports us so well.”

Accomplishing the flying mission for JBSA-Randolph for more than 80 years, the 12th Flying Training Wing showcased its Airmen and connected visitors with the various flying training missions performed daily in the defense of the nation.

“Air shows are a thank you to our community and its leaders that sustain our mission and our Airmen every day,” Col. Matthew Isler, 12th Flying Training Wing commander, said. “This event says thank you to the families who have given their children to serve our country and helps us recruit those who will serve in the future.”

The various static displays that were available for air show attendees to explore included the F-22 Raptor, A-10 Thunderbolt II, F-35 Lightning II, the C-5 Galaxy and the C-17 Globemaster III. Aircrew members for each aircraft were also on hand to answer questions.

Volunteers from throughout JBSA planned and prepared for months leading up to the air show and open house in order to ensure its success.
