JBSA-Lackland hosts Individual Ready Reserve Muster

By Gloria Kwizera JBSA-Lackland Public Affairs

The 502nd Air Base Wing with support from the 433rd Airlift Wing hosted an Individual Ready Reserve Muster here July 11.

The IRR Muster is one of three continuous pre-trained individual manpower screening programs mandated by law and managed by Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center.

"What is unique about these Airmen is they have served previously on active duty or a Reserve component for some period of time, and have a period of their military service or contract agreement with the Air Force remaining," said Debra Prude, 802nd Force Support Squadron chief of plans and readiness.

More than 300 IRR Airmen attended the event Friday to update personal information and civilian employment status, and to get information on veteran benefits, career opportunities, IRR member responsibilities and more. Medical screenings were also provided on site.

"Recruiters are also available to talk with them in case any of them would like to join the regular reserve or reenter active duty," said Prude.

IRR members are required to have all personal affairs in order and report immediately if mobilized. They must contact ARPC with any changes to mailing address, marital status, number of dependents or physical conditions that may affect availability for mobilization. During an annual screening, members are considered "on duty" and are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Muster screenings are conducted annually at various host installations to enhance readiness and reporting of this vital Strategic Reserve asset.

This screening is the 14th of 24 scheduled for this year. Airmen with questions about the muster should contact the Air Reserve Personnel Center, according to Christine Lynn, ARPC workforce development.

Although attending the muster is mandatory, some Airmen may have been unable to attend. They will receive a letter from ARPC, and will have 10 working days to respond.
