JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON –
As an Army Health Readiness Center of Excellence, the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston will play an expanded role supporting the Army to lead the design, integra¬tion, education and training of new and innovative approaches to health and the Army Health System.
Headquarters, Department of the Army, designated the AMEDDC&S as the Army's Health Readiness Center of Excellence Feb. 19.
The designation enables the com¬mand to focus on medical capability development and integration functions and serve the Army as a single agency to coordinate the medical and health needs of Soldiers and their Families.
The HRCoE also establishes opera¬tional conditions for the command to establish a university model and de¬gree granting authority for AMEDDC&S as an academic institution.
As an HRCoE under the U.S. Army Medical Command, the command maintains a focus on combat casu¬alty care and aligns with other Army Training and Doctrine Command Centers of Excellence in terms of the authority and responsibility for devel¬oping medical readiness and health concepts, identifying medical readiness and health capability gaps, and defin¬ing and refining future Soldier medical and health requirements established by TRADOC.
The designation establishes a part¬nership with TRADOC while main¬taining the uniqueness of the Army Medical Department. This distinction recognizes that the AMEDD Center and School plays an integral and critical role in supporting Army global engage¬ments and the Army future force.
