New ambassadors named for 2007

By Staff Sgt. Vincent Borden 37th Training Wing Public Affairs

Two Lackland Air Force Base Airmen were recently chosen as the new faces for the base. They will serve as goodwill ambassadors at numerous community events in 2007, including the 10-day Fiesta celebration.

Capt. C. Brent Dishman of the 37th Training Wing Judge Advocate General Office and Tech. Sgt. Magdalena Cortez of the 737th Training Group were two of nine applicants interviewed by a seven-person panel Dec. 15.

New ambassadors are chosen every year to represent Lackland at numerous community events and to promote the military's commitment and relationship with local communities around southern Texas.

To be the face of a community as large as Lackland is a huge responsibility that takes the most dedicated, poised and charismatic individuals. The enormity of that responsibility is not lost among the newly chosen ambassadors.

"It's a great honor to be selected as an ambassador for Lackland," said Captain Dishman. "There are a lot of great people here, and to be able to represent them to the community is something I don't take lightly."

Because charisma and an outgoing personality are essential characteristics needed in their ambassadorial duties, the ambassadors' jobs also provide a great deal of satisfaction and fun.

"Being able to represent the military to the local community and speaking about the military are two things I'll enjoy the most," said Sergeant Cortez. "I love what I do, and I love the Air Force, and the more information I'm able to share with the local community about the Air Force mission and what we do here, the better off we all are."

Lackland's newest ambassadors, besides being primary participants in San Antonio's Fiesta celebration, will participate in parades and ceremonies through the year in the surrounding communities of Helotes, Canyon Lake, Seguin and New Braunfels, among others.
