Award-winning author visits Lackland Elementary School

By Staff Sgt. Vincent Borden 37th Training Wing Public Affairs Office

Children at Lackland Elementary School explored the imaginary world of Foo at the March 7 invitation of Obert Skye, author of the award-winning "Leven Thumps" book series.

Mr. Skye, whose Imagination Tour aims to encourage children to follow their dreams, has reached out to more than 80,000 students at more than 120 schools around the country.

During his interactive presentation, Mr. Skye offered three main points as the guidelines for dream fulfillment: have courage, think big and be great.

After hearing some of the dreams and aspirations of children in the audience, he asked them to keep those dreams close to them, and never lose sight of what they want to accomplish.

His message aims to give children the tools needed to make their own dreams come true.

He also encouraged students to read, to be creative and to explore their imaginations.
Mr. Skye's stop at Lackland Elementary was one of many in the local area, as he promotes his newest offering, "Leven Thumps and the Whispered Secret," the second book in the series.

His first book, "Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo," was presented the Texas Bluebonnet award in 2006.
