Lackland Air Force Base, Texas –
It may not be the deck of the aircraft carrier Hornet, but nonetheless, five B-25 aircraft will be taking off from the Kelly Field flightline on April 20, part of weeklong activities honoring the Doolittle Raiders' historic raid on Tokyo, Japan, in 1942.
The 65th anniversary reunion will feature numerous events beginning April 15 in San Marcos and ending April 20 in San Antonio.
A highlight of the reunion will take place at Lackland AFB on April 20 when the Doolittle Raiders hold an open cockpit for base personnel only and their family from 8-9 a.m. That will be followed immediately by a B-25 flyover of the basic military training graduation ceremony.
The public's opportunity to get an up-close look at a historic part of military aviation takes place from noon to 2 p.m. when the Raiders hold a second open cockpit.
Lackland's History and Traditions Museum will have exhibits and history boards on the Doolittle Raiders available for viewing in Base Operations, Bldg. 1610, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Entry to the events at the Kelly Field flightline will only be available at the Base Operations gate.
