Fitness staff prepares to lose big

By 37th Services Division Fitness and Sports Department

Several members of the 37th Services Division Fitness and Sports Department are showing the way to fitness by participating in an eight-week fitness improvement program.

Approximately 30 staff members will undergo a Microfit fitness assessment to analyze their overall fitness level. Based on the scores they will be divided into two teams and set forth on a journey toward overall fitness improvement.

"The plan is for the team members to compete in an effort for their team to win, but hopefully, at the end of the competition, everyone will be a winner as a result of their increased fitness and health level" said Steve Reichert, Fitness and Sports director.

The initial Microfit assessment will consist of an overall analysis of their physical health and fitness level by measuring their cardiovascular fitness, blood pressure, heart rate, body weight, body fat, upper body strength, endurance and overall flexibility.

The teams will have a mid-term assessment after 30 days to gauge their progress. At the final assessment, the team that shows the greatest improvement in their average overall fitness score will win the prize.

According to Mr. Reichert, the competition has several objectives.

"It will educate the Lackland community to the fitness programs and facilities that are available to them. It will be a great way for the fitness staff to share information and help guide one another to be true fitness professionals. But, most importantly, it can inspire the men and women of Lackland to let the highly trained and motivated fitness staff to help guide them to their fitness goals."
