Lackland Air Force Base, Texas –
Nearly 40 Lackland security forces Airmen flew out of Lackland May 29 in support of ongoing missions associated with Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Security personnel from various bases, such as Eielson AFB, Alaska, Davis-Monthan, Ariz., Hickam AFB, Hawaii, and Randolph also joined the Lackland Airmen on the deploying aircraft.
More than 10 members of base leadership joined the receiving line, headed by the 37th Training Wing commander, Brig. Gen. Darrell Jones, to wish the Airmen well on their mission.
"It's hard to send my kids into harm's way," said the general. "But I know and they know that they're deploying in order to serve a greater purpose; and that we have trained them extensively so that they may succeed in their missions."
The teams are scheduled to be deployed for approximately six months, two months longer than the average deployment for Airmen in other career fields.
