RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Randolph men and women will soon get to prove who is best at what is being billed as the "couch potato's" pentathlon.
Beginning Aug. 2, the 12th Services Division will host its first ever Randolph Pentathlon, but unlike regular pentathlons, this event will not require any running, jumping or other rigorous physical activities.
The indoor pentathlon will consist of five events - bowling, 8-ball pool, foosball, darts and video games - in which four team members will go head-to-head. A different event will be held every Thursday until the final event on Aug. 30. The bowling center, enlisted club and the officer's club will be the event sites.
Sharon Rector, 12th Services Division Community Support Flight Program manager, said the idea for the new pentathlon came from one of the base customers.
She said she thinks the base community will embrace the inaugural Randolph Pentathlon.
"It's definitely going to be a fun event," she said. "Hopefully, it will bring more people and new customers to our activities."
The top five teams in each event will be awarded points. After the last event on Aug. 30, the team with the most points will win the pentathlon. Medallions will be awarded to those teams who place first, second and third.
The event is open to all active duty servicemembers, Department of Defense civilians, retirees and family members 18 years or older. Up to six members are allowed on each team.
Teams interested in entering, can pick up an entry form at any of the three event locations or online at www.servicesatrandolph.com under the "Community Support Flight" section. Entry forms can be faxed to Ms. Rector at 652-7454 or sent via e-mail to sharon.rector@randolph.af.mil.
The entry fee is $20 per team and the deadline for entering the pentathlon is July 26.
