LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
The Air Education and Training Command Headquarters Maintenance Standardization and Evaluation Team gave the 37th Training Wing a 93 percent pass rate for the comprehensive 495 inspections performed during their visit to Lackland from March 10-13.
On March 14, the MSET held its outbriefing, giving Lackland a favorable review. The team also awarded Fred Sanchez, 37th Logistics and Readiness Squadron; Capt. Joey Martinez, 318th Training Squadron; and Tech. Sgt. Darrell Swanson, 37th Operations Support Squadron honorable mentions for their roles in creating a great work environment.
Mr. Sanchez was recognized for his management and operations work. The maintenance of the munitions storage structure was highlighted, as well as the Munitions Control Lightning Protection and key and lock program.
Captain Martinez received an honorable mention for his role in managing the Inter-American Air Forces Academy equipment and its custodians.
"It was evident that the equipment custodians spent considerable effort in ensuring 100 percent visibility and accountability of assigned equipment," said Rick Kopp, chief of quality assurance for the 37th OSS.
Sergeant Swanson was honored for developing a detailed equipment tracking system used to monitor in-service equipment rates. The system ensures accurate reporting of equipment required to perform wing missions.
"The MSET was more than impressed with Lackland's hospitality and enthusiasm, which they mentioned many times," Mr. Kopp said.
The MSET oversees performing inspections of aircraft, trainer and munitions maintenance activities within Air Education and Training Command.
The team inspected equipment and maintenance conditions of the 37th Operations Support Squadron transient alert areas. The MSET also inspected maintenance of training aircraft and equipment in hangars at Kelly Field Annex which are used by IAAFA and fall under the jurisdiction of the 318th Training Squadron.
The inspection also targeted personnel proficiency, operational safety, technical compliance with orders, equipment condition, training, accurate documentation and effective program management.
Team Lackland earned the praise of Lt. Col. David Foote, MSET chief, for a "zero discrepancy" foreign object damage program and an outstanding FOD committee.
"The team left Lackland with valuable information and insights that will be used to make our sword even sharper," Mr. Kopp said. "It was a thorough look, well worth the stressful weeklong visit."
