LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Every April since 1986, the "Month of the Military Child" has been celebrated to recognize the important role military children and families play in the Department of Defense community.
It is also a time to emphasize the importance of providing children with quality services and support to help them adjust and succeed in the mobile military lifestyle.
As part of the Spring Fling weekend, Lackland will host a Month of the Military Child "Celebrate Kidz Fair" and bring together a large number of base agencies and organizations to celebrate our children, youth and families on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lackland Youth Center.
The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Warhawk Fitness Center with a family 5-K Run/Walk sponsored by the Lackland Child Development and Family Child Care Parent Advisory Board.
The entire family is invited to enjoy the activities, learn more about services available, and honor our children.
There will be a wide range of activities, including paper hat decorating, ring toss, painting and FitFactor games.
Agencies that support the health and safety of our children and youth will also provide activities, information booths and static displays, including Family Advocacy, Airman and Family Readiness Flight, Enlisted Spouse Club, Health and Wellness Center, Wilford Hall Medical Center Pediatric Clinic, Lackland Outdoor Adventure Center, McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparky the Fire Dog and a demonstration by the military working dogs.
Youths will also share their skills through individual talent performances and art work.
