LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
In order to help reduce energy and utility costs on base, the 37th Training Wing commander has reviewed and approved initiatives implemented in 2007.
"In response to the White House challenge to our nation to reduce dependency on foreign oil and to reduce energy (use) in our federal installations, we need to create a culture where all Team Lackland makes energy conservation a priority in everything we do," Brig. Gen. Len Patrick said.
To meet this goal, Team Lackland should exercise the following initiatives, effective immediately:
· Keep building temperatures no higher than 68 degrees during heating season and no lower than 78 degrees during cooling season.
· Set exterior lighting controlled by timers to go off by 10 p.m.
· Ensure all non-mission critical interior lighting and equipment (including computer monitors) are turned off at the end of the duty day, but no later than 6 p.m.
· Turn off outdoor lighting for sporting and training during daylight hours unless lighting is required due to inclement weather or special events.
· All new equipment purchased must be Energy Star compliant.
If lights or equipment are left on after duty hours, security forces members will identify the building. Commanders will be notified to have the building's manager respond immediately.
"With involvement of all Team Lackland, we can succeed in reducing our energy demand, identify and implement energy conservation projects and make energy a consideration in our decisions and operations," said the commander.
