RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley visited the Airmen of the Air Force Personnel Center here May 29.
Chief McKinley and other members of the board that select the next Air Force 12 Outstanding Airmen and First Sergeant of the Year were in town. During his visit to AFPC, the chief talked with people from the center's seven directorates, had lunch at the dining facility and was invited by Maj. Gen. K.C. McClain, AFPC's commander to speak at her two commander's calls.
The chief thanked the Airmen attending for serving the Air Force, for the important jobs they do and how every job is important to the success of the Air Force.
"You need to do your job right and to the best of your ability each and every day. Whatever job the Air Force gives you, just do the very best that you possibly can," he said.
Airman 1st Class Lillian Thompsett of AFPC's separations branch said of the chief's speech, "Having a Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force who believes everyone's job is important and has a purpose is very refreshing for a young Airman, especially being a personnelist."
The chief also stressed that much of taking care of our Airmen does not cost anything, it is about leadership.
"I encourage all supervisors to mentor their Airmen and let them know when they're doing a good job," he said. "I also know we all want to be nice, but leadership and caring about your Airmen is also not hesitating to take corrective action and get an Airman back on the right path. Caring is also about doing what is right for your Airmen, even when that is the more difficult thing to do."
