RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Two elements of the 12th Security Forces Squadron have moved to Hangar 52, following the departure of the Deployment Readiness Center.
During the past two weeks, the SFS mobility section was the first to move to the new location, followed by the SFS squadron supply section.
"The supply section equips security forces personnel for their day-to-day mission," said Tech. Sgt. Scott Schlosser, SFS unit deployment manager. "We still have small things to take care of with the move, but we are operating at normal speed here. The move was beneficial to us. We doubled our space."
Sergeant Schlosser said the uniform and gear worn by deployed SFS members is different in some ways from non-police Airmen serving downrange, creating a need for a separate facility apart from Randolph's Deployment Readiness Center.
"Our equipment is different in some ways to what other Air Force personnel wear," Sergeant Schlosser said. "Also, we have these gigantic containers - deployment pallets - that require a lot of space to store. They are packed and ready at all times. The move helps with things like that."
The large metal containers hold enough gear to keep a unit of up to 13 SFS Airmen functional for several days with no support. Sergeant Schlosser said these units are utilized when their personnel are sent on short notice to various areas of responsibility.
With various elements of security forces currently occupying nine buildings on Randolph, Sergeant Schlosser said the squadron's supply and mobility sections are now fully functional.
