LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Jerry Vesey, a mechanical engineer with the 37th Civil Engineer Squadron, was recently named Air Education and Training Command's 2009 Black Engineer of the Year in the most promising engineer or scientist category.
Mr. Vesey was selected because of his many accomplishments, including his work as the lead mechanical engineer over the fire protection, water and waste water, petroleum oil and lubricants programs.
His efforts commissioning a landmark study of low expansion foam fire protection systems for Lackland's C5 maintenance hangars and his work lead to a project to correct deficiencies in Lackland's hangars, which currently house more than $1.2 billion in Air Force assets.
The Black Engineer of the Year Awards honor innovators who demonstrate excellence in science, technology, engineering and math fields, leadership in their workplaces and communities, exemplary work as role models and mentors, and a commitment to recruiting and retaining minorities in the nation's science and technology enterprises.
Mr. Vesey will now go on to compete at the Air Force level.
