RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
The Randolph portion of the 2008 San Antonio Area Combined Federal Campaign ends today and officials project meeting the wing's contribution goal.
As of Monday, the wing is at 98.6 percent of its goal, with $212,197 collected toward the ultimate objective of $215,192.
Maj. Ron King, 12th Operational Support Squadron assistant director of operations and 12th Flying Training Wing CFC project officer, said the effort, which started with a kick-off breakfast on Sept. 4 and later continued with a Team Randolph CFC golf tournament, featured wing unit volunteers getting in contact with Airmen to provide information and give them an opportunity to contribute.
Major King said he collects contribution forms from the wing's five group representatives who, in turn, collect from key workers in each subordinate wing unit.
"The goal is getting out and getting face-to-face contact - meaningful contact - and looking them in the eye and asking them to give," Major King said.
And there many organizations contributors can donate to -- through the CFC -- that can make a real impact, Major King said.
"The neat thing about the CFC is that there are so many different organizations to give to," he said. "Almost everyone on base knows someone who has been touched by the campaign. And for whatever charitable cause someone is interested in, there is something for them."
The major also said several unit commanders have approached him to regale stories of people the campaign has helped.
Major King also said with the current economic uncertainties and concerns less people in the wing are giving than last year. But, on average, contributors are giving more per person than last year.
Most Airmen and civilians who work for the Air Force are blessed by not facing some of the economic concerns that civilians do, like losing homes, Major King said.
"A lot of people out there are facing hard times, so it's important to give."
