LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Team Lackland demonstrated its generosity by raising $239,051.71, or 115 percent of its Air Force Assistance Fund goal. The "Commitment to Caring" campaign on Lackland, which began March 9 and ended April 17, provided Airmen the opportunity to contribute to any of the four official Air Force charitable organizations.
Now in its 36th year, 100 percent of monies raised will benefit active-duty, Reserve, Guard, retired Air Force people, surviving spouses and families.
"Surpassing the Team Lackland goal shows that even when times are tough, (Airmen) know and understand the importance of taking care of each other," said Capt. Angela Sanders, a Team Lackland campaign coordinator.
The four official Air Force charitable organizations include the Air Force Village Foundation, the Air Force Aid Society, the General and Mrs. Curtis LeMay Foundation, and the Air Force Enlisted Village.
Captain Sanders said a majority of the donations are going to the Air Force Aid Society which provides emergency assistance to Airmen in the form of grants and loans, and sponsors education assistance programs. The Air Force Village Foundation, Air Force Enlisted Village and the General and Mrs. Curtis LeMay Foundation provide housing and financial assistance for retired Air Force widows who have no other means of support.
The sense of family and the wingman spirit contributed to the campaign's success, Captain Sanders said. "What helped make this campaign successful is the same thing that makes us as Airmen successful: the role of family the Air Force provides us and its true leadership in taking care of our wingman."
