RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
The Air Force Personnel Center edged out Medical Group Team #1, 47-42, in a head to head struggle in intramural basketball action April 24.
Both teams entered the tournament with a season record of 10-2 and fought it out in a close game with a lead margin never exceeding more than 6 points.
MDG #1 took the lead early in the first half with points scored by Greg Walker, Skylar Armstrong and Marcus Gamboa. AFPC kept on the team's heels and a back and forth tussle kept the scoring even.
AFPC's Ernest Banks, Michael Nelson, Dione Odom and Nathaniel Livermont contributed to their team's 25-21 lead near the end of the first half, but a 3-pointer by MDG's Walker at the buzzer, brought the halftime score to 25-24.
The second half mirrored the first with critical 3-pointers made by AFPC's Anthony Graham and MDG's Gamboa. In the end, a 3-ponter and five good free throw shots by Livermont gave AFPC enough of a lead to win the game.
AFPC coach David Wood said, "Thank you to my guys for a job well done. They kept the championship where it belongs... with AFPC!"
