The Lady Ro-Hawk track and field team dominated in relays, the long jump and sprints on May 16 as they won their third Class 2A Region IV championship in the last four years at D.W. Rutledge Stadium in Converse.

The team scored 96 overall points, which left it well ahead of second place Wallis Brazos, which scored 73 points and third place local rival Poth High, which garnered a distant 52 points.

Randolph High School's top two finishers in each regional event will now defend the Lady Ro-Hawks three-time state 2A championship title against about 200 2A teams from June 5-6 at the state finals at the University of Texas in Austin.

"We're in a good position to defend our title," said fourth-year Ro-Hawks girls track Coach Misty Kinsey.

During regionals, freshman Ebony Collins and junior Kenya Alexander qualified for state competition after each respectively won the 100-meter and the 200-meter dashes.

Freshman Elena Gumbs will also compete in the state finals after winning the 400-meter dash, with a time of 59.62 seconds.

Senior Jasmine Kent won the long jump at regionals with a mark of 18 feet, three inches and will compete in the state finals. She also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds and qualified for state finals competition. However, the state finals are at the same time as her class's graduation, so she elected not to compete and to instead graduate with her class.
