RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
The movie theatre renovation that began in January is scheduled for completion in mid-July.
"The contractor is supposed to be finished on July 10," said John Hamby, 12th MIssion Support Squadron Civil Engineer Division theatre project manager. "I have recommended to services to wait until July 17 to begin using the theatre because something may come up that requires more work."
According to Eloy Andrade, construction manger, the theatre renovation will improve safety and accessibility, as well as the quality of service to moviegoers and briefing presenters.
"The work on the ceiling involved repairing the air conditioning registers - those were deteriorated where it connects to the ceiling," Mr. Andrade said. "There's an element of safety for those that have been repaired."
The theatre renovation will also be compliant with regulations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. There will be accessible restrooms and water fountain for male and female patrons.
"Now, the theatre will be able to better service all people," Mr. Andrade said. "It will be much more acceptable and usable to the individuals who need that."
The theatre renovation also helps with on-going preservation efforts.
The theatre has been repainted, recarpeted and replastered. The roof has undergone extensive repair and the drainage system is flowing like new. Grills for the ticket taker windows and new lighting have also been installed. The existing concession stands have been cleaned and repainted.
"The things that we did improved the appearance and help with ongoing preservation efforts," Mr. Hamby said. "The renovation will maintain the historic qualities of the building and help prevent deterioration."
Upon opening, the price of admission will be $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years old. For more information on the theatre, call 652-3278.
Once an opening date is selected, the opening announcement will featured in the Wingspread.
