Randolph Air Force Base, Texas –
Social media has seemingly leaped to the forefront in today's information age.
Sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn and blogs have become valuable resources to share information and photos with family, friends and coworkers.
Randolph AFB is no different. In an effort to better connect and share with our audiences, now you can become a fan of our great installation via the new Randolph Air Force Base Facebook page.
The site has been active for about a month and as of Tuesday has 137 fans from all over the country. The site contains information, photos and blogs. Fans can add comments and post photos as well.
"Social media sites and blogs give us more tools to tell the Air Force story," said Mike Briggs, 12th Flying Training Wing chief of public affairs. "We're able to reach more people using different platforms we might not have considered a few years ago, but that today can't be ignored because of the millions of people engaged in Web-based communication."
With more than 200 million users, Facebook would be the 5th largest country in the world if it were an independent nation. A media source with that kind of reach and power gives the base a high-visibility platform.
The goal for the Randolph Facebook page is to better connect with the public interested in what we do and what goes on here day to day.
It also gives people the opportunity to express their views on certain topics and provide feedback to general questions and comments by other users.
"The goal is to have some fun with the site and to spark a conversation with our fans," Mr. Briggs said. Yes we want to connect and inform, but we also want it to be entertaining to keep our fans interested in what's going on here at Randolph."
In addition to the Randolph Facebook page the base also post a blog on the official web site of the San Antonio Express News. A new blog entry is posted three times a week and users can leave comments about each blog.
The Randolph Blog on the mysantonio.com web site can be found at http://voices.mysanantonio.com/randolph/. As always, news, photos and information on Randolph can be found on our official website at www.randolph.af.mil. With so many different ways to connect, interact with other fans and get information we want you to become a fan of Randolph today.
