RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
As twilight comes to Randolph Air Force Base today and Saturday, a howling good time is likely for children and adults alike as they participate in the activities of All Hallows' Eve.
Two days of Halloween fun are planned, from an adults-only party at the Kendrick Club to a gathering in the Parr O'Club's Auger Inn that won't end until the witching hour Saturday.
Here is a rundown of Randolph's Halloween highlights:
· An adults-only party at the Kendrick Club Friday from 8-11 p.m. Call 652-3056 for more information.
· A party Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight in the Parr O'Club's Auger Inn. Call 652-4864 for more information.
· Youth Programs Fall Hi-Jinx, a safe alternative for participants, Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the youth center gym, Building 585. The event will feature games, prizes, contests, Halloween treats and costumes of all descriptions.
· The 12th Security Forces Squadron and volunteers will ensure the safety of children trick-or-treating throughout base housing with Operation Pumpkin Patrol Saturday from 6-8:30 p.m. They recommend all trick-or-treaters, whether on or off base, wear light-colored fabrics or reflective materials, carry a flashlight or glow stick, stay in well-lit areas of familiar neighborhoods and walk instead of run. Call Tech. Sgt. Monica Harris, 652-1645, or the 12th SFS law enforcement desk, 652-5700, for more information on Operation Pumpkin Patrol.
Here are some other trick-or-treating safety tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
· Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
· Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them and limit the amount of treats you eat. Eat only factory-wrapped treats and avoid eating homemade treats unless you know the cook well.
· Look both ways before crossing the street, using established crosswalks where possible. Walk only on sidewalks or on the far edge of the rod facing traffic.
· Enter homes only with a trusted adult.
· Never walk near lit candles or luminaries and be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.
