RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
With one week to go in its six-week Air Force Assistance Fund campaign, Randolph has already eclipsed its Air Force-assigned monetary goal.
Maj. Gordon Pfeil, Randolph AFAF program manager, reported that the 2011 campaign raised $101,748, or 118 percent of its Air Force goal, by April 22, which marked the end of the fundraising effort's fourth week.
"Although this is still well short of last year's record-breaking success of $194,000, we're confident that we're going to finish with a bang," he said. "We call on anyone who has not yet given to seriously consider lending their support to these worthwhile charities."
The Air Force Assistance Fund benefits four charitable organizations that support the Air Force family, including active-duty, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard and retired personnel as well as their dependents and surviving spouses.
The Air Force Villages Inc. and the Air Force Enlisted Village Inc. ensure that widows or widowers of Air Force members have a secure retirement home, the Gen. and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation provides widows of Air Force retirees with grants of financial assistance and the Air Force Aid Society helps members of the Air Force family meet educational or emergency needs.
The campaign solicits the contributions of Airmen assigned to Randolph, Joint Base San Antonio headquarters and other detachments at Fort Sam Houston and geographically separated units outside San Antonio. It also accepts, but does not solicit, donations from civilian personnel.
Major Pfeil said unit key workers are still available to take contributions during the final week of the AFAF campaign. In addition, unit fundraisers are planned to raise more money for the campaign.
