JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas –
The Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Warhawks came full circle during the Joe Hall tournament but not in a good way. The Warhawks lost their first game to Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., 71-58 Saturday and fell to Tinker again in the loser's bracket with a 58-54 overtime loss Sunday.
The Warhawks' second loss to Tinker eliminated them from contention. The team ran out of fuel after having to defeat JBSA-Fort Sam Houston earlier in the day.
After winning the Joe Hall tournament last year, Warhawks coach Curtis McGlown said he was happy with his team's effort and hard play. Consistent energy, turnovers and shot selection is what ultimately prevented the Warhawks from repeating as champions this year.
"When you put it all together, you got to win with that type of chemistry," said McGlown. "I was proud of the team for playing hard, but we have to look see where we can improve.
"The team was resilient," he said. "Everybody played to win, but when you lose, you got to look at the small things."
