JBSA voters prep for presidential election

By Alex Salinas Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Public Affairs

While many uniformed military members submitted absentee ballots for the 2012 general election, civilian and contracted Joint Base San Antonio members have through today to vote early and avoid long lines at the polls Tuesday.

Bexar County residents can cast early votes at any polling location within the county, and those in Schertz in the Guadalupe and Comal County areas are required to vote at a specified location based on their precinct, Ernesto Canciller, JBSA-Randolph voting assistance officer, said.

Additionally, the city of Cibolo, in Guadalupe County near Randolph, follows the early voting precinct rule.

"Don't forget to bring your voter registration card and a form of ID to the polls," Canciller added. "You can still vote without your voter registration card by signing an affidavit at the polling place and showing your ID."

After today, Bexar County election officials won't release polling locations until Tuesday. Locations for voting in Guadalupe and Comal counties will remain based on precincts Tuesday.

"We greatly encourage early voting, but people who can't make it then should be prepared to wait in line at the voting booth 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday," Canciller said.

Texas residents can visit to contact their county election official, or call the voting assistance office at 652-2727/8959 for more information.
