JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON –
Senior Master Sgt. Claude Weidow, superintendent for the Air Force's Independent Duty Medical Technician program at the Medical Education and Training Campus at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, was recognized as a Jimmy Doolittle Educational Fellow by the Central Florida Chapter of the Air Force Association during the chapter's Air Force Gala banquet in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 21.
The Jimmy Doolittle Educational Fellow award was established by the AFA to honor Gen. Jimmy Doolittle's contributions to educating the public about and building support for aerospace power.
Weidow is a member of the 383rd Training Squadron, which is part of the 937th Training Group, the Air Force component that supports METC. He was the only medical personnel to receive the honor this year for his dedication to the education and advancement of Airmen.
The sergeant was instrumental in the planning and execution of the squadron's relocation from Sheppard Air Force Base to JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, contributing to the success of the newly formed METC.
Weidow leads the Air Force's only enlisted medical provider course, guiding five instructors in training and awarding 3,000 Community College of the Air Force hours to 130 Airmen each year.
As superintendent of the IDMT course and the Air Force IDMT consultant, Weidow coauthored the first IDMT protocol rewrite in 10 years and assisted in re-writing the Air Force IDMT instruction, creating 108 guidelines and standardizing care and training for 474 medics world-wide.
In addition to receiving the Doolittle award, a $1,000 donation was made to the AFA in\ Weidow's name.
The award was presented by Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, AFA Central Florida Chapter President Michael Liquori and Air Force Gala Chairman, Tim Brock.
