JBSA firefighters complete 9/11 climb challenge

By 502nd Air Base Wing 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Joint Base San Antonio firefighters took part in the San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb at the Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, on Sept. 11, 2025.

The firefighters used time during the event to honor fallen members of the Fire Department of New York who died following the 9/11 attacks and reflect on the inherent risks of their profession.

They climbed the equivalent of 110 floors, testing their resiliency, resolve and endurance while honoring the more than 340 firefighters lost on 9/11. Participants donned approximately 80 pounds of gear and pushed themselves physically, demonstrating their readiness to act for the safety and security of the community during emergency calls.

Personal Alert Safety Devices were used to audibly notify team members of a firefighter in distress and in need of immediate assistance. Participants paused their climb to activate their devices, marking the times the twin towers and Pentagon were struck, and Flight 93 crashed on 9/11.
