JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
Interested in opening your home to host a couple of Soldiers for Thanksgiving dinner?
Registration has begun for the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence 2025 Mission Thanksgiving event. Registration began Sept. 10 and runs through Oct. 20.
Mission Thanksgiving at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston began many years ago when local families and installation chaplains created a program allowing Soldiers to take a break from training and experience Thanksgiving in a family setting.
This annual event provides the community with the chance to welcome Soldiers into their homes for Thanksgiving Day. It was suspended for a few years during COVID-19 but started back up last year.
In order to give young Soldiers who are away from home for the first time a Thanksgiving meal in a family setting, there are some rules to follow:
- All participants must consent to a background check to ensure the safety of our Soldiers.
- Soldiers operate on a “buddy system” and will go out in pairs.
- Plan to pick up and drop off at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.
- Details regarding pickup times and locations will be provided to those families selected to host.
- Interested families can register at the following link: https://go.army.mil/MissionThanksgivingForm.
- MEDCoE employees are not eligible to participate.
- See the official Mission Thanksgiving page at https://go.army.mil/MissionThanksgivingInfo.
