Air Force Accessions Center welcomes new commander

By Air Force Accessions Center Public Affairs Air Education and Training Command Public Affairs

The Air Force Accessions Center held a change of command ceremony at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph on July 18, 2025, as Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Nelson assumed command from Brig. Gen. Christopher Amrhein.

Lt. Gen. Brian S. Robinson, commander of Air Education and Training Command, presided over the ceremony, which marked the first leadership transition for AFAC since its establishment in December 2024.

As the inaugural commander, Amrhein successfully stood up AFAC by merging the Air Force Recruiting Service and Holm Center. This strategic move streamlined all pathways to Air Force and Space Force service. As the dual-hatted commander of AFAC and AFRS, he led AFRS through a critical period for the Department of the Air Force recruiting.

Taking command in June 2023, just after the Air Force missed its recruiting goals and amidst a challenging environment for all military services, Amrheim led the DAF to successfully achieve Fiscal 2024 recruiting goals and reach Fiscal 2025 goals three months early.  Additionally, during his tenure, the Warrant Officer Training School was launched.  The officer training pipelines of OTS and ROTC revamped training and syllabi with a deliberate focus on warfighter leadership and synchronized core competencies between the two organizations in concert with the Air Force Academy.

During Amrhein’s command, AFRS implemented key initiatives including medical processes, enhanced training and goal-setting methodologies, innovative partnerships, increased community outreach and targeted marketing campaigns that contributed to recruiting’s success.

“As Cathy and I depart, what we will miss most profoundly are the recruiters and training professionals, their families, as well as the dedicated staff of the Air Force Accessions Center to enable the fielded forces of AFAC to execute with precision,” Amrhein said. “Cathy and I have been incredibly fortunate to connect with so many of these remarkable individuals worldwide and seeing their successes come to fruition firsthand has been an immense honor. This team has delivered for our nation the highest quality of Airmen and Guardians to ensure we remain the greatest Air and Space Forces in the history of the world — Combat Readiness begins with recruiting — AIM HIGH AND SEPER SUPRA"

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey W. Nelson previously served as the Director of Operations and Communications for Headquarters Air Education and Training Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. In this role, he oversaw the world's largest training organization, which provided initial skills, flying, combat crew, and supplemental training for more than 300,000 Air Force, joint, and international personnel across 65 Air Force and Department of Defense locations.

The Air Force Accessions Center, located at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, merges the Air Force Recruiting Service at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph and the Jeanne Holm Center at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, which oversees Officer Training School, Warrant Officer Training School and Junior and Reserve Officer Training Corps, under one organization to oversee recruitment, officer accessions and citizen development.
