JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas –
Developmental Special Experiences provide Air and Space Professionals more than just education and training opportunities, they help the service build the Airmen needed for the future high-end fight.
The DSEs, cataloged by Air Education and Training Command’s Force Development Credentialing Division’s DSE branch, are hands-on experiences outside of formal training, established recurring opportunities, a means to gain/increase competencies, and duties typically external to primary AFSCs or job series. The following DSEs are highlighted this quarter:
Officer: National Reconnaissance Office Development Program (NRODP)

- Prerequisites:
- 6 or fewer years TAFCS at program start date
- 36 months TOS prior to departing current duty location
- Designed to develop and train highly skilled 14N intelligence professionals with advanced digital acumen within a selective 36-month internship
- Focuses on Big Data and contemporary technologies preparing graduates to support warfighters, decision-makers, and national security objectives
- Aims to bridge the gap between operational needs and technological development by integrating current operational experience into NRO tool and capability development efforts, which involves cultivating a new generation of digitally proficient 14N intelligence officers who can seamlessly integrate NRO technologies, capabilities, and tools into warfighter operations, maximizing their impact
- Involves a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) to the NRO campus in Chantilly, Virginia
- HQ USAF/A2FD, in collaboration with the NRO and Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) Assignment Officers, manages the program for all Air Force personnel
- Graduates will complete a follow-on assignment after program completion

Enlisted: Innovation Flight Chief (NCOIC)

- Provides the unique opportunity to engage with private industry and Federal, non-DoD, AF, MAJCOM, and wing leaders from Active Duty and Reserve commands as well as mentor and train Airmen of all ranks seeking to improve their skill and knowledge of cutting-edge technologies, manufacturing, and mission understanding
- Works directly for the Wing Commanders in directing Airmen and teams through the innovation life cycle
- Directs or works through problem identification, design thinking, critical analysis, and iterative design and development to arrive at viable prototype/hardware solutions for problem sets across the 628 ABW/437 AW and tenant units
- Co-leads daily Spark Cell Operations

Civilian: Organizational Change Management Master Trainer

- Prerequisites:
- Must be Air Force certified OCM Practitioners and approved by the AF OCM Manager
- A four-day Train-the-Trainer Program expanding upon the fundamentals covered in the three-day Change Management Certification Program
- Immersion in the change management teaching experience, learning how to develop and deliver five core training programs in the way that best suits the AF’s culture and environment
- Qualifies the participant to coach, develop and mentor other AF members to improve the overall change-readiness of the organization
- Must facilitate one of the role-based programs within 90 days of completing their course to complete the Master Trainer Program
- Training is only open to personnel within the A1 Enterprise (DAF/A1, MAJCOM/A1, AFPC, ARPC, FSS, MPF, CSS, AFSVC, AFMMA). Contact the AFPC OCM POC to start the application process.
