Sixteenth Air Force commander offers guidance at commissioning ceremony

Lt. Gen. Thomas Hensley, Sixteenth Air Force (Air Forces Cyber), commander, shared his experiences and advice to cadets at the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 842 Spring 2025 Commissioning Ceremony at the at The University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas, May 19, 2025.

Hensley congratulated the cadets for winning the Right of Line Award -- an accolade awarded by the United States Air Force ROTC, is based on evaluations of cadet performance, community service, officer production, recruiting and scholarships.

He also discussed how subordinates will observe the actions and behaviors of the future leaders, setting the tone for organizational culture. He also emphasized how a strong and positive culture is vital for the success and defense of the nation.

“Make no mistake, even as a butter bar, all of your subordinates will have their eyes on you," Hensley said. "They will observe how you act, react, behave and respond to your environment. Your actions will help reinforce the right culture in our organizations. Having the right culture is absolutely critical to the defense of our nation.”
