SAAPM raises public awareness about sexual assault, violence

502d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, or SAAPM, and is aimed at raising public awareness about sexual assault and educating communities about preventing sexual violence.

SAAPM plays a role in military readiness by fostering a culture of respect, support, and accountability within the force.

By raising awareness and providing education on sexual assault prevention, SAAPM equips our military members with the knowledge to identify and prevent sexual violence. A healthy and safe environment allows service members to focus on their missions, knowing that they are part of a community where they are valued.

In addition, SAAPM promotes access to support services and encourages victims to seek help, which strengthens resilience and recovery, further contributing to our military’s fighting forces.

Two resources are the Joint Base San Antonio Sexual Assault Hotline at 210-808-7272 and the DOD Safe Helpline at 1-877-995-5247. Individuals can also chat live with the DOD Safe Helpline at safehelpline.org.

Both programs offer 24/7 support and resources for military members affected by sexual assault. These services are confidential, anonymous, and secure.

Throughout April, JBSA will host several events to raise awareness and educate the military community, including the SAPR/SHARP TEAL Run/Walk 5K, the annual SAAPM Golf Tournament, and the “Strike Out Sexual Assault” bowling event.
