JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Uber ride-sharing has been authorized to provide transportation services to Department of Defense members at Joint Base San Antonio installations.
Uber drivers that have been pre-vetted at one of the Visitor Control Centers operated by the 502nd Security Forces Group and issued a Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, credential may access JBSA installations for the sole-purpose of picking up or dropping off DOD members to their authorized locations.
The Trusted Traveler Program is not authorized for use with the Uber ride-share program; all passengers in the vehicle must be in possession of a valid DOD credential to access the installation.
As with any new service, DOD members should be aware that the number of Uber drivers issued DBIDS access credentials may be limited in the early stages of program implementation but will continue to grow as the JBSA access control team continues to work with Uber to support the JBSA community.
The process for DOD members to select an Uber driver authorized base access is seamless. Once the DOD members requests transportation to or from a JBSA installation, only DBIDS-credentialed Uber drivers will receive the call for service based upon Uber’s geo-tracking capabilities.
