502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Multiple gunshots were heard just outside of Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston’s Schofield Gate today just off installation property beginning at approximately 11 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2023.

The San Antonio Police Department promptly responded to the reported gunfire and began conducting sweeps of the wooded area just south of Salado Creek.

SAPD concluded their sweeps at 2:16 p.m. with no findings.

The final gunshot was reported to have occurred at approximately 11:54 a.m.

Out of an abundance of caution, the installation closed the Schofield Gate and placed buildings in the immediate area near the reported gunfire on lockdown. These buildings were released from lockdown after final sweeps of the area were conducted by law enforcement.

No injuries nor damage to federal property were reported as a result of the gunfire.

The 502nd Security Forces will maintain an elevated posture in the vicinity of the incident for several hours.
