SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
The GameX23 Drone Guardians Tournament is coming to San Antonio Oct. 20-21 and it’s your chance to help the Department of the Air Force test Airmen and Guardian decision-making in a contested environment through scenarios on a gaming platform.
GameX is an initiative under an Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center contract with MITRE. As part of an eSports-based human-in-the-loop experiment, GameX participants get to prove their gaming skills and have fun, while helping AFIMSC better understand their challenges and using their feedback to help the DAF determine strategies and resources. Cash prizes up to $1,000 will be awarded daily and door prizes will be given out throughout each day!
During the tournament, teams of five play the game and defend deployed locations from multi-domain attacks while continuing to generate fighter aircraft missions. They must make critical mission decisions such as whether to prioritize readying aircraft for launch over defending the air base or putting together a contested logistics strategy to ensure they have the supplies they need to complete the mission.
Providing a challenge on multiple fronts, the game requires a mix of first-person shooter, strategy and puzzle-solving skills for participants to be successful.
Details:
- Open to military members, Department of Defense civilians, and members of the general public ages 18 and up (or accompanied by a parent/guardian if younger than 18).
- Two on-site tournaments take place Oct. 20 and Oct. 21.
- Sign-ups are available for either or both days. The tournaments are independent of one another.
- Solo players or five-person teams can sign up. Solo entrants will be combined to form five-person teams.
- Limited to 50 people per day (10 teams).
- Start time is 8 a.m. and the tournaments will run to about 7 p.m. with breaks throughout the day.
