U.S. Army Capt. Tyler A. Nixon, a health services administration officer with the 30th Medical Brigade in Sembach, Germany, was found deceased at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Sept. 25.

Nixon was a 27-year-old Medical Service Corps student in the Captains Career Course at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. He was found unresponsive in his hotel room the morning of Sept. 25.

“Our hearts go out to Tyler’s friends and family,” said Col. Anthony King, the 30th Medical Brigade commander. “He was a great Soldier and person who volunteered his time to support sports programs across Sembach, and he is already missed.”

Nixon was originally from Oakfield, New York. He attended the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, where he graduated and commissioned as a second lieutenant in 2018.

His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

The incident is under investigation.
