JBSA welcomes Honor Flight veterans back home

By Katherine Spessa 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Joint Base San Antonio and 502nd Air Base Wing Command Team of U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Russell D. Driggers and Command Chief Master Sgt. Gilda Alexander were among those on hand to greet Honor Flight veterans Sept. 17 returning to San Antonio International Airport from their trip to Washington D.C.

The veterans were also met by cheers from the crowds and thanks from Joint Base San Antonio and Texas National Guard service members at the San Antonio International Airport. The veterans’ Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. included visiting war memorials and celebrating their service to their country.

Honor Flight, a non-profit organization that transports American veterans to war memorials in the national capitol to celebrate their service, has celebrated the service of more than 200,000 veterans since its creation in 2005.
