By Jet Fabara 340th Flying Training Group Public Affairs

Lt. Col. James Morgan assumed command of the 70th Flying Training Squadron from Lt. Col. Amy Lewis on May 5, 2023, during a ceremony held at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Col. Charles Sallee, 340th Flying Training Group deputy commander, officiated the change of command ceremony.

As a command pilot with more than 3,100 flying hours in four aircraft, and 1,000 combat hours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Morgan is now responsible for the execution of the Air Education and Training Command/Air Force Reserve Command Associate Instructor Program at USAFA, supporting operations of the 306th Flying Training Group by conducting more than 55,000 sorties and 22,000 parachute jumps annually.

The 70th FTS provides augmentation to the cadet airmanship programs for over 4,000 cadets annually, providing flying and jump instructor continuity across all airmanship programs including soaring, free-fall, powered flight and flight screening. The 70th FTS falls under the 340th Flight Training Group for administrative control and the 306th Flying Training Group for operational control.
