JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas –
At approximately 11:49 a.m. March 3, firefighters responded to a fire on the roof of a dormitory facility housing Defense Language Institute English Language Center students at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
First responders safely evacuated all building occupants with no reported injuries. Officials have since cleared the scene and all occupants are permitted to return. The damage is confined to solar panels and the roof.
“The safety of our community is our top priority, and we are committed to providing JBSA personnel with a safe place to live and work,” said Cliff Martinez, the 902nd Civil Engineer Squadron fire department chief and the incident commander. “Our trained professionals in the fire and police departments quickly responded, were able to contain the hazard and evacuate everyone safely. We have specialists investigating the cause of the fire to minimize the possibility of a future incident.”
The cause of the fire is being evaluated.
